Every week, the food network plays porn for me to watch. Not the dirty kind. Food porn. Every time I see “The Best Thing I Ever Ate”, I salivate and wish I was at every single location. One of the places I have been dying to try is the Potato pizza at Five Points. Its a french restaurant near NYU, and i figured that should be one of the places they recommended to visit ASAP.

Well after a year, I finally find myself there with my friends Glenn, Nameeta and Rachel. What a nice casual looking restaurant. We decided to dine al fresco since the weather was awesome that day. We were fast to decide what we wanted. I got the steak salad.

The bread they served was really good. Soft, moist with a nice crust. Just the way I like it. With a little butter. A little salt. Yum.

Our entrees came and we were excited to get started. I went straight for Rachel’s Yukon Gold Potato Pizza.

Yukon Gold Potato Pizette

It was … an interesting experience. The texture was not what I had in mind. Was it good? Yes. Was it unique? Hell yeah. Was it the best pizza I ever had? Nope. I was expecting it to be more potatoey, but it was just a thin layer of it. It had great flavor, but i wished it had more potato flavor. I feel like a judge on Iron Chef now and anal about the secret ingredient. The crust however was perfect. I couldn’t get enough of it.

Steak Salad

As for my steak salad, i have to say the little amount of steak I got had to be the best steak I ever had in my life. It was PERFECT. Full of flavor. Extreme tender. Just the way I like it. Medium. It was pretty amazing. Sadly, I haven’t had that many good steaks in my life. Hopefully, Peter Luger will blow this steak away. Got a reservation for next month there. The crispy onion on top was done really well and was really good with the steak. I didn’t realize they were putting blue cheese on it, and that ruined my dish because Im not into heavy flavor cheeses. Thank god they didn’t put that much. Still an enjoyable dish but felt more like an appetizer than an entree.

The scallops were not too bad. Not perfectly seared though. But it was still good.

Scallops

For dessert, instead of getting gelato at the restaurant, we decided to go straight to the source. Il Laboratorio del gelato. It so happen that it was located near where I live. I loooove living on the border of the Lower East side and East village.

Gelato

I had the mocha and meringue. It was gooood. I tried the peach and that had to be one of the best peach gelato I ever had. They usually taste artificial but this one had a good flavor. Definitely a good place to grab gelato in the city. They are suppose to be famous for their bold and interesting flavors. Unfortunately, there was nothing special when I was there. Sigh. Will definitely check in when they got something interesting. Call before heading over.

Will definitely be back to these two places. I really want to try the brunch at five point. Apparently their pancakes and mac n cheese are to die for.
